Kingston General Hospital
Intranet and Website Solutions
As southeastern Ontario's leading centre for complex-acute and specialty care, Kingston General Hospital (KGH) is the leading institution serving nearly a half-million residents throughout southeastern Ontario. Affiliated with Queen's University, it is the premier location for post-graduate training and research -- a key waypoint along the educational path for 2,400 students from 34 universities and colleges across Canada; and home to 160 researchers and 850 volunteers.
In alignment with KGH’s web renewal strategy the hospital was looking to embark on a multi-year, multi-phased redevelopment project. Phase one of this project saw the redevelopment of its public-facing websites: the KGH main site, the KGH Research Institute website, the KGH Learning website, the Southeast Regional Cancer Program site, and the KGH Connect news website. Phase two of the project consisted of the redevelopment of KGH’s Intranet solution.
Focused on patients and families, the online experience mirrors what they experience while at KGH. While the primary audience is patients and their families, the website addresses the information needs of everyone who works, learns, volunteers and partners with the hospital. It also supports various external relations functions such as media relations and human resource recruitment.
KGH’s Intranet solution, known as KGH Today, features a fully-responsive, multi-site, multi-role solution featuring department based collaboration tools, light-weight document management, detailed content creation and approval workflows, and Active Directory integration allowing seamless Intranet access internally and externally from both desktop and handheld devices.
Both the internal and external websites are fully AODA compliant, with advanced full-text search capabilities via a SOLR search appliance. They offer revision history with roll-back on all content, and feature personalization for content, calendars and much more.
